About

The North Ballard Chop Shop is a design and fabrication studio located in Seattle, WA.  It maintains a crew of two reasonably clever (but not formally trained) furniture enthusiasts.

This is our hobby.  Yes, we kept our day jobs.  But in those day jobs, there is an unfortunate separation from what we design and how it gets built.  The North Ballard Chop Shop is our search for a more direct connection between thinking and making.

It should also be noted that this website exists largely as a clearinghouse of NBCS shenanigans so that distant friends and family can stay up to date.

Why the name? 

Do you steal cars and chop them up for parts?  No, we do not.  We do, however, borrow ideas or parts of ideas and incorporate them into our work.  We take inspiration from friends, fellow designers, young people, old people, dead people; any people really.  The North Ballard Chop Shop believes that there are no entirely new designs, only remixes.  Sorry snowflakes.

Perhaps more to the point, we thought the name sounded cool.  And we are located in a garage north of Ballard.
